Football icon Lionel Messi has arrived in Mumbai, the third stop of his much-anticipated GOAT India Tour 2025, as the Argentine superstar continues his whirlwind visit across the country.
The World Cup-winning captain reached the Taj Mahal Hotel amid tight security, with fans eagerly awaiting his interactions in India’s financial capital.
Messi’s Mumbai visit follows two contrasting experiences earlier on the tour. While his first stop in Kolkata was marred by chaos at the Salt Lake Stadium—after fans expressed anger over VIPs and politicians allegedly monopolising his time—his second appearance in Hyderabad turned into a celebratory spectacle for football lovers.
At the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, fans witnessed Messi in action during a 7-a-side exhibition football match, which also featured Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The 38-year-old soaked in the adulation of a loud and passionate crowd, turning the Hyderabad leg into one of the most memorable moments of the tour so far.
During the event, Messi met the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi and presented him with his iconic Argentina No. 10 jersey. The Congress leader posed for photographs alongside Messi and his Inter Miami teammates, Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul. Messi was also felicitated by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy with a memento in recognition of his visit.
Adding a heartfelt touch to the evening, Messi—who is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador—spent time playing football with children at the venue, creating unforgettable memories for the young fans.
As part of the Mumbai leg, under-14 footballers from across Maharashtra will be shortlisted by the state sports department and given the rare opportunity to train with Messi on Sunday.
Delhi will serve as the final destination of the GOAT India Tour 2025, where the Argentine legend is scheduled to conclude his three-day visit on Monday.
