New Delhi: Gujarat Titans pulled off a dramatic one-run win over Delhi Capitals in a high-scoring Indian Premier League clash on Wednesday, holding their nerve in a last-ball finish despite a stunning knock from KL Rahul.
Chasing a daunting 211, Delhi looked on course for victory but faltered in the final moments. Needing two runs off the last two balls, David Miller refused a single off the penultimate delivery from Prasidh Krishna, a decision that proved costly.
Miller then missed the final ball, while Kuldeep Yadav failed to get back in time against a sharp direct hit from Jos Buttler, sealing a thrilling win for Gujarat.
Earlier, Shubman Gill led from the front with a commanding 70 off 45 balls, guiding Gujarat Titans to a formidable 210 for four. He was well supported by Buttler, who smashed 52 off 27 deliveries, and Washington Sundar, who contributed a quickfire 55 off 32 balls after Delhi opted to bowl.
For Delhi Capitals, Mukesh Kumar (2/55) and Lungi Ngidi (1/24) were the most effective with the ball.
In reply, Rahul’s brilliant 92 off 52 balls kept Delhi in contention. He shared a brisk 76-run opening stand with Pathum Nissanka (41 off 24), setting a strong foundation. However, the middle order failed to capitalise before Miller’s unbeaten 41 off 20 balls brought the match down to the wire.
Rashid Khan starred with the ball for Gujarat, picking up 3 for 17 to restrict Delhi just short of the target.
