Harry Brook Withdraws From IPL 2025, Prioritizes England Commitments

Date:

England batter Harry Brook has decided to pull out of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), opting to focus on his international commitments. The 25-year-old, who was signed by Delhi Capitals for ₹6.25 crore in the auction, announced his decision on social media, expressing his regret while reaffirming his commitment to England cricket.

Brook, in a heartfelt message, acknowledged the difficulty of stepping away from the tournament. “I have made the very difficult decision to pull out of the upcoming IPL. I apologise unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters,” he wrote.

His withdrawal could, however, have consequences. Under a recently introduced IPL rule, players who pull out after being auctioned—unless due to injury or medical reasons—will be barred from participating in the league for the next two seasons. With Brook missing IPL 2024 as well due to personal reasons, his latest decision puts his future in the tournament at risk.

The young batter, who played his only IPL season in 2023 with Sunrisers Hyderabad, explained that the relentless cricketing schedule had taken a toll on him. “It is a really important time for England cricket and I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series. In order to do this, I need time to recharge after the busiest period in my career to date,” he stated.

“I know not everyone will understand, and I don’t expect them to, but I have to do what I believe is right, and playing for my country remains my priority and focus,” he added.

Brook’s absence will be a significant blow to Delhi Capitals, who had invested in him with the hope of strengthening their middle order. Whether he faces a formal ban from IPL participation remains to be seen.
