Mumbai is likely to experience heavy to very heavy showers for three days (September 27-29), according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The forecast issued on Friday also covers surrounding districts such as Palghar, Thane, and Raigad, which are likely to see similar weather conditions during the same period. Mumbai and the neighbouring districts currently remain under an orange alert, which signals the possibility of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
More Districts Under Red Alert
The IMD noted that some districts in Maharashtra, including Jalna, Beed, and Solapur, are under red alert for Saturday, indicating the likelihood of moderate to intense rain, thunderstorms, and surface winds. Much of the state will see moderate rainfall under either yellow or orange alerts.
Rainfall Forecast Across India
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast in isolated areas across Chhattisgarh, Kerala and Mahe, Konkan and Goa, north interior Karnataka, Odisha, and Telangana on Saturday. Similar conditions are expected in parts of Andhra Pradesh, coastal Karnataka, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, and West Bengal and Sikkim.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph are likely in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, and Telangana.
“Squally wind with speed reaching 45–55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph, is likely to prevail over some parts of the southwest adjoining west-central Arabian Sea, along and off the Somalia coast,” IMD warned.
