Washington, D.C: In a significant shift from his previous stance, former President Donald Trump has now declared his support for TikTok, reversing his earlier call for a ban on the popular social media platform. This change in position comes shortly after Trump joined TikTok.
While he had initially advocated for a ban during his presidency, citing security concerns, Trump now opposes any attempt to restrict the platform.
During a conversation with conservative activist Charlie Kirk, Trump opposed the idea of banning TikTok. “And you’ll never ban TikTok, that’s for sure,” Kirk stated, to which Trump responded, “I will never ban TikTok.” The shift comes amidst broader political debates on the future of TikTok in the United States.
Earlier, in April, President Joe Biden approved legislation requiring ByteDance, the Chinese parent company of TikTok, to sell the platform by mid-January or face a potential ban in the United States. This move has sparked criticism from Republicans who argue that the platform poses a national security threat.
