Date:

In a gripping encounter at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, India triumphed over Pakistan by six wickets in one of the most anticipated matches of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. India’s innings began with Verma scoring a steady 32 runs off 35 balls, including three boundaries, alongside Smriti Mandhana, who managed only 7 runs from 16 balls before being dismissed by Sadia Iqbal in the fifth over. This early wicket set the tone for a tense chase.

Jemimah Rodrigues stepped up, contributing 23 runs off 28 balls. She formed a vital 43-run partnership with Verma before Omaima Sohail struck again, dismissing Verma in the 12th over. Following this, Fatima Sana turned the tide for Pakistan, claiming two wickets in a single over, removing Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh for a golden duck, putting India in a precarious position.

Despite the pressure, Harmanpreet Kaur played a composed innings, scoring 29 runs off 24 balls and showcasing her leadership skills. Alongside Deepti Sharma, who played a supporting role, the pair focused on rotating the strike rather than chasing boundaries, effectively stabilizing the innings. They crossed the 100-run mark in the 18th over, with Kaur hitting a boundary through extra cover.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat, a decision that proved challenging as they struggled to find any momentum throughout their innings. The Pakistani batting lineup faltered early, with Renuka Singh dismissing Gull Feroza for a duck on the very first ball and Deepti Sharma quickly following up by taking out Sidra Amin for 8 runs, leaving Pakistan at 29 for 2 after the powerplay.

Pakistan ultimately limped to a total of 105 runs, with Syeda Aroob Shah and Nashra Sandhu adding some late runs.
