What was meant to be a celebratory trip before graduation turned into a tragedy for the family and friends of Gaurav Jaisingh, an Indian-origin student at Bentley University in Massachusetts, who died after falling from a hotel balcony in the Bahamas.
The 22-year-old student, was vacationing on Paradise Island with classmates as part of an annual senior trip when the accident occurred on Sunday night. According to Bahamian authorities, Jaisingh was in his hotel room with friends when he accidentally fell from an upper-floor balcony. He was found unresponsive on a lower level of the building.
Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he died before he could receive treatment. The Royal Bahamas Police Force has launched an investigation into the incident, though initial findings suggest the fall was accidental.
Jaisingh was just days away from graduating. Bentley University, where he studied, released a statement expressing profound grief over the loss. “it’s been a difficult few days and our community is feeling the emotional toll of the tragic loss of Gaurav Jaisingh ’25. Our hearts go out to Gaurav’s family and friends. We plan to honour Gaurav at the undergraduate commencement ceremony.” The University also confirmed it will pay tribute to him during its undergraduate commencement ceremony on May 17.
