New Delhi: Imagine having a personal assistant always available for you. Picture having the power to customize this assistant to fit your preferences. If reports are to be believed, Instagram’s upcoming feature could turn this imagination into reality, potentially transforming how we interact with social media.
Instagram is reportedly in the process of developing a feature that allows users to design their own personalized AI chatbots. While the development of this feature is ongoing, there is no certainty whether it will be officially introduced. Nonetheless, the potential for such innovation is undeniably captivating.
As per a TechCrunch report, the forthcoming feature may enable users to customize chatbots in terms of gender, age, ethnicity, personality, and interests. These personalized chatbots could serve various roles, acting as companions, offering assistance, and guidance, or serving as sounding boards for ideas. Once personalized, users can name the chatbot, assign it an avatar, and engage with it through a chat window, as outlined in the report.
As an example, a user might craft a chatbot with expertise in fashion, seeking advice on outfit choices for an upcoming event. Alternatively, another user could design a chatbot functioning as a life coach, seeking assistance with goal-setting or overcoming challenges.
Indeed, Instagram has yet to officially confirm the release of this feature. However, if introduced, it could bring potential benefits such as heightened engagement on the platform and a potential reduction in the workload for human moderators.
Chatbot could enhance users’ interaction on Instagram and potentially relieve human moderators of tasks such as responding to user queries and managing spam and abusive content.
In September this year, Meta unveiled its AI assistant, Meta AI, during the Connect launch event. This AI assistant was expected to be accessible on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook in the near future.
“Meta AI is a new assistant you can interact with like a person, available on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and coming soon to Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and Quest 3. It’s powered by a custom model that leverages technology from Llama 2 and our latest large language model (LLM) research. In text-based chats, Meta AI has access to real-time information through our search partnership with Bing and offers a tool for image generation,” the company wrote in its blog during the Meta AI introduction.
In addition to MetaAI, the company revealed the launch of 28 more AI chatbots, each possessing unique personalities and background narratives. Moreover, these chatbots will showcase profiles on various social media platforms.
