At the UN Headquarters, Jaishankar launched India’s UNSC campaign with a six-point vision called SHANTI: Securing Holistic Advancement through Norms, Trust and Integrity.
Addressing UN ambassadors, diplomats and officials, he said India would represent the voice of the Global South and work towards strengthening multilateral institutions.
Jaishankar also highlighted India’s contributions to UN peacekeeping and commitment to the Women, Peace and Security agenda.
India will contest the Asia-Pacific non-permanent UNSC seat in next year’s UN General Assembly election. If elected, it will become a council member for the ninth time.
