Delhi Capitals delivered a confident response after their previous defeat, beating the two-time champions Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in the 13th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 on Tuesday.
The loss marked Mumbai Indians’ third consecutive defeat in the tournament, adding to earlier setbacks against UP Warriorz. Despite the result, Mumbai remained second on the points table with four points from six matches, while Delhi climbed to fourth with two wins from five games.
Put in to bat, Mumbai Indians struggled to gain early momentum as their top order faltered against disciplined Delhi bowling. Openers Sajeevan Sajana and Hayley Matthews were dismissed inside the powerplay, leaving Mumbai crawling to 23/2 after six overs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur tried to rebuild the innings and looked in good touch before falling for 41.
Nat Sciver-Brunt once again stood tall for Mumbai, scoring an unbeaten 65 off 45 balls. In the process, she equalled Meg Lanning’s record of 11 half-centuries in WPL history. Despite late contributions, Mumbai were restricted to 154/5, with spinner Shree Charani starring for Delhi with figures of 3/33.
Delhi’s chase began aggressively, with Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee providing a rapid start. Shafali also reached the 1,000-run milestone in WPL, becoming only the fourth player to achieve the feat. After both openers were dismissed, captain Jemimah Rodrigues and Laura Wolvaardt steadied the innings.
Jemimah led from the front, scoring a composed unbeaten 51, as Delhi comfortably chased down the target. Marizanne Kapp finished the match in style with a six, sealing a seven-wicket win and keeping Delhi’s playoff hopes alive.
