Jigra Impresses with Alia’s Stellar Performance While Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video Falls Flat: Netizens Verdict

Date:

As the much-anticipated films Jigra and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video hit theatres, audiences and critics took to social media to voice their opinions. While Jigra has been met with widespread praise, especially for Alia Bhatt’s stellar performance, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video seems to have missed the mark, failing to deliver on the promise of its intriguing premise despite strong efforts from its cast.

Jigra, directed by Vasan Bala and starring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina, was released today and quickly became a talking point. The film tells the emotional story of a sister fighting to save her brother from wrongful imprisonment and the harrowing torture he endures. X users wasted no time showering the film—especially Alia Bhatt—with praise.

One fan took to X to declare, “#AliaBhatt in #Jigra: Second half:   Now I understand why she’s called the ‘lady superstar.’” Another wrote, “Another badass and unapologetic portrayal of a female lead by Hindi Cinema! No one is doing it like Bollywood in 2024.”

Fans were particularly impressed with the film’s emotional weight and the intense performance by Alia. “OMG! Just finished watching #JIGRA. What a brilliant movie. @aliaa08 killed it! She just lit up the screen,” one tweet read. Manoj Pahwa and Rahul Raina were also highlighted for their stellar performances, alongside Vedang Raina, who made a memorable impact as Alia’s brother.

The film’s pacing did get a few mentions, with one user commenting, “A few pacing issues aside, #Jigra is one of the best Hindi films of 2024. The cinematography and soundtrack are world-class. The last 40 minutes are riveting!” Fans seem to agree that Jigra is one of Bollywood’s finest films this year, with many calling it a must-watch in theatres.

Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video: A Missed Opportunity

On the other hand, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video—directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri—hasn’t fared quite as well. Billed as a slapstick comedy set in Rishikesh, the film follows a newlywed couple on a madcap chase to retrieve a missing CD from their wedding night. Unfortunately, the film quickly unravels into what one reviewer called “an ungainly mess that sways between the absurd and asinine.”

Unlike Jigra, celebrated for its emotional depth, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video failed to live up to the hype. Viewers were left unimpressed by its disjointed screenplay, lack of wit, and confusion.

One critic wrote, “Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video is a riot, but not in the way it wants to be. The film runs in circles for over two and a half hours, leaving the characters and the audience exhausted.”

Despite the film’s shortcomings, the performances by Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri were praised. Rao, known for his ability to bring nuance to small-town characters, was acknowledged for rising above the chaotic material. “Rajkummar Rao manages to salvage whatever he can from the wreckage. His performance as a common-man hero is the only saving grace,” one review noted.

Triptii Dimri, playing his bubbly doctor-wife, also gave a commendable effort, though it wasn’t enough to lift the film out of mediocrity.

The supporting cast, including Vijay Raaz and Tiku Talsania, tried their best to inject some energy into the film. Still, their strong efforts couldn’t overcome the film’s poorly structured screenplay.

While Jigra emerged as a triumph, with fans praising Alia Bhatt’s powerful portrayal and the film’s emotional storyline, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video failed to capture the same magic, ultimately disappointing both critics and audiences alike. Alia’s film is being hailed as one of the best releases of 2024. In contrast, Vicky Vidya is a case of talented actors being let down by a lacklustre script and execution.
