Australia’s bowling attack has suffered a significant blow as star pacer Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the second Test in Adelaide due to a low-grade left side injury. The pink-ball Test, scheduled from December 6-10, comes as a critical juncture in the five-match series, with India leading 1-0 after a commanding 295-run victory in Perth.
Hazlewood, who impressed in the first Test in Perth with figures of 5 for 57 across 34 overs, will now sit out as the hosts scramble to reinforce their bowling lineup. His absence leaves a significant void, particularly after his first-innings spell helped restrict India to 150 runs.
In a bid to address the gap, Australia has added uncapped fast bowlers Sean Abbott and Brendan Doggett to the squad. They join 35-year-old seamer Scott Boland, who is already part of the setup and could feature in the playing XI. The latest inclusions follow the earlier addition of all-rounder Beau Webster, brought in as a backup for Mitchell Marsh.
The second Test will be played under lights, with the pink ball expected to offer swing and seam movement, particularly in the evening sessions. Australia’s selectors are banking on their depth in pace to exploit these conditions, with Boland and the new additions offering fresh options.
