The Bombay High Court has asked the CBFC to decide by September 18 on Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency and the next hearing on September 19. Kangana and her team had knocked on the Bombay High Court doors, seeking her film’s release.

The division bench of Justices BP Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla, has turned down the same, urging the CBFC to consider the objections. The Bombay High Court is hearing an urgent petition on Wednesday.

Zee Entertainment Enterprises moved the Bombay High Court on September 3 to direct the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to issue the film “Emergency” certificate.

“If we were to direct CBFC to issue certificate without considering objections, we would effectively be directing CBFC to breach order of another HC. Judicial propriety demands such a course should always be avoided. Considering these circumstances, we are of the view, as on date, we are unable to direct CBFC to issue the certificate as sought for by the petitioner (Zee Entertainment) in the present petition at this stage,” the Bench of Justices B P Colabawalla and Firdosh P Pooniwalla said.
Advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, appearing for CBFC, submitted on Wednesday that the Madhya Pradesh High Court had asked the Board to consider the objections against the movie before granting the censor certificate.
