The wait is over for fans of Rishab Shetty’s cinematic universe, as Hombale Films unveiled the trailer of Kantara Chapter 1 on Monday, coinciding with the first day of Navratri. The film, a highly anticipated prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, promises to dive deeper into the myth, mysticism, and folklore that captivated audiences worldwide.
The trailer opens with the perspective of a child trying to uncover the truth behind his father’s mysterious disappearance, slowly unravelling the origins of a legend. Set against the tyranny of a merciless king, Kulashekara, the narrative introduces the divine intervention of an angelic force sent to protect humankind.
Rishab Shetty, stepping once again into the role of a fearless warrior, is seen leading the villagers’ fight for justice while also navigating a tender romance with Rukmini. Visually stunning, the trailer builds toward a climactic showdown between Rishab’s character and Kulashekara, blending the raw brutality of war with an undercurrent of spiritual and supernatural energy.
What sets Kantara Chapter 1 apart is its ambition. The makers have mounted one of the largest war sequences ever attempted in Indian cinema, shot across a recreated town spanning 25 acres of rugged terrain. With contributions from international and national action specialists, the sequence brought together 500 trained fighters and 3,000 extras, filmed over nearly 50 days — making it a landmark effort in scale and execution.
Written and directed by Shetty, the film goes back to the roots of the Kantara universe, offering audiences a glimpse into the foundation of the legend that shaped the first film’s narrative.
Scheduled for a worldwide release on October 2, 2025, Kantara Chapter 1 will hit theatres in seven languages, Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, Bengali, and English, setting the stage for one of the year’s biggest cinematic spectacles.
