Karnataka High Court Quashes FIR Against Ranveer Singh In Kantara Mimicry Row

Date:

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has quashed the FIR against actor Ranveer Singh in the “Kantara mimicry” controversy, while directing him to visit the Chamundeshwari Temple in Mysuru within four weeks and submit a written apology.

The case stemmed from a complaint alleging that Singh hurt religious sentiments by mimicking the Daiva ritual sequence from the film Kantara Chapter 1 during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa in November 2025.

In a viral video, he was seen praising and then imitating a scene featuring the Daiva possession sequence, which drew criticism online.

Following the complaint by a Bengaluru lawyer, an FIR was registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Singh later approached the court seeking quashing of the case and submitted an unconditional apology, stating he respected all traditions and intended only to appreciate actor Rishab Shetty’s performance.

During proceedings, his counsel argued that security concerns after his recent film Dhurandhar 2 limited his ability to fix a temple visit date. The court, however, orally observed that he must complete the visit within four weeks and noted it would record an “admonition” for his actions.

The court disposed of the plea while retaining directions for apology and temple visit, effectively closing the criminal proceedings against the actor.
