The Supreme Court has arranged a special screening of the film ‘Laapataa Ladies’ on Friday, exclusively for its judges, their families, and registry officials. This film, which has received critical acclaim, revolves around the topic of gender equality. The screening will take place from 4:15 PM to 6:20 PM in the court.
As per Supreme Court’s administrative section, actor and producer Aamir Khan, along with the film’s director Kiran Rao, will also be present at the event.
It said, “As part of the activities organised during the seventy-fifth year of the establishment of the Supreme Court of India, the movie ‘Laapataa Ladies’ which is based on the theme of gender equality, will be screened on Friday, August 9, 2024 in the Auditorium, C-block, Administrative Building Complex.” “The officials of the Registry have also been invited for the movie,” it added.
The film ‘Lapata Ladies’, directed by Kiran Rao, is set in the 2000s and revolves around the humorous and satirical tale of two newlywed brides who get accidentally switched during a train journey because of their veils. The story revolves around the confusion and chaos that is followed from this mix-up, while also exploring deeper themes of identity, societal expectations, and the roles of women. The film uses situational humor and irony to tell its story, with a particular focus on the absurdities of traditional customs.
Laapataa Ladies had a modest start at the box office. Over its opening weekend, the film earned approximately ₹4 crore in India. Despite a slow beginning, the film saw a boost in collections. The film when premiered on Netflix in March 2024, reached an impressive milestone, garnering 13.8 million views.
