A 49-year-old woman was shot dead by New York police after she allegedly stabbed two people in Times Square on Monday afternoon, killing one and seriously injuring another.
The attack took place around 4:30 pm near the busy pedestrian hub, with the two stabbings occurring within about 20 seconds.

Police identified the suspect as Pamela Cisneros, who allegedly attacked a 32-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man in what authorities described as a random and unprovoked incident.

The female victim, who suffered abdominal injuries, died in hospital. The male victim was also stabbed in the abdomen and was later reported to be in stable condition.
Police said Cisneros fled but was confronted near an NYPD substation while carrying two knives.
Officers spent about four minutes ordering her to drop them. After Tasers failed to stop her, police opened fire when she continued advancing with the knives. She was taken to hospital and pronounced dead.
Authorities said Cisneros had a documented mental health history and no clear motive has been established. The attack has not been classified as terrorism-related.
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani thanked the officers for preventing further casualties. An internal investigation will be conducted, and body-camera footage is expected to be released.
