Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav etched his name into the record books with a sensational five-wicket haul against the West Indies on Day 3 of the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday.
The left-arm wrist spinner’s spell of 5 for 82 not only dismantled the West Indies batting lineup but also earned him a historic milestone, becoming the fastest left-arm wrist spinner to claim five five-wicket hauls in Test cricket.
With this achievement, Kuldeep joined England’s Johnny Wardle as the only two left-arm wrist spinners to take five or more five-wicket hauls in the format. However, the Indian spinner reached the landmark in just 15 Tests, whereas Wardle needed 28 matches to do so. South Africa’s Paul Adams follows the duo with four five-wicket hauls in 45 Tests.
Kuldeep’s performance further strengthens his case as a mainstay in India’s Test bowling attack, especially on subcontinent pitches that reward skillful spin bowling. At just 29, he has already achieved milestones that few have managed, proving his ability to adapt and deliver across conditions.
