Mangaluru: Four students of a Karnataka college were suspended for dancing wearing a ‘burqa’ and dancing to Bollywood music during a college event.
The Mangaluru college administration took action after a video of their performance at a college event went viral on social media.
The St Joseph Engineering College took to Twitter and added that the students appearing in the viral video have been suspended and an inquiry is pending on the matter.
The tweet further added that “It was not part of the approved program and the students involved have been suspended pending enquiry. The college does not support or condone any activities that could harm the harmony between communities and everyone (sic).”
The video shared on different social media platforms sparked major controversy with users calling it a mockery of hijab and burqa. Principal in-charge Dr Sudheer M also issued a statement to the media on the same.
