Isak Andic, the founder of Mango and a pioneer in global fashion retail, tragically passed away on Saturday following a hiking accident near Barcelona. The 71-year-old entrepreneur, who transformed Mango into one of Europe’s most iconic fashion brands, was reportedly hiking with family members when the incident occurred.
Mango’s CEO, Toni Ruiz, confirmed the news in an official statement, expressing the company’s deep sorrow. “It is with deep regret that we announce the unexpected death of Isak Andic, our non-executive chairman and founder of Mango,” Ruiz said.
Born in Turkey and later settling in Spain, Andic embarked on his journey in fashion retail with a small shop in 1984 on Barcelona’s prestigious Paseo de Gracia. Partnering with his older brother Nahman, he introduced a fresh and modern approach to clothing that resonated with Spain’s post-dictatorship generation. His first store became an instant success, capitalizing on a country eager for change and modernity after decades of conservatism under General Francisco Franco.
Under Andic’s leadership, Mango grew from a single store to an international fashion powerhouse, with nearly 2,800 stores in over 120 markets worldwide. Employing 15,500 people, the Barcelona-based company has become synonymous with stylish yet affordable clothing, serving millions of customers globally.
