US Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “special person,” highlighting the close and personal rapport that has blossomed between their families. Speaking at an event in Jaipur, Vance shared warm anecdotes about his children’s admiration for Prime Minister Modi, calling him one of only two world figures, the other being US President Donald Trump, that his kids genuinely like.
Accompanied by his wife Usha and their three children, Vance recounted a dinner hosted by PM Modi at his official residence in Delhi the previous evening. The evening wasn’t just about political discussions or formalities. For the Vance family, especially their seven-year-old son Ewan, it was a moment of pure joy.
“After we left the Prime Minister’s house, my son Ewan turned to me and said, ‘Dad, maybe I can live in India,’” Vance said, describing the young boy’s delight with the food and the Prime Minister’s warmth.

Vance also recalled a particularly touching gesture from earlier this year when he met PM Modi during the AI Action Summit in Paris. During that high-stakes international gathering, the Indian Prime Minister surprised the Vance family by acknowledging the fifth birthday of their younger son, Vivek.
“So think about this – huge international policy conference. He took the time to stop by where I was staying, wish our second son Vivek a happy birthday and even bring him a gift,” Vance shared. “It’s not every day that a world leader does something like that — it meant a lot to us.”
Calling Modi “a special person,” Vance said his affection for the Indian leader wasn’t just rooted in politics but in the genuine connection he saw between Modi and his children — something he said was rare and deeply moving.
He revealed that his children, despite being around many influential figures, had only really bonded with two world leaders. “First, of course, is President Trump. He just has some certain energy. And Prime Minister Modi is the exact same thing our kids just like and I think because kids are of such strong characters, I just like Prime Minister Modi too and I think it’s a great foundation of our relationship,” he said.
