The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) held its 86th Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, marking a day of landmark decisions aimed at honoring cricketing legends and bolstering grassroots development. Among the standout announcements was the decision to name a pavilion at the iconic Wankhede Stadium after India’s legendary opener and current all-format captain, Rohit Sharma.
The Divecha Pavilion Level 3 will officially be known as the Rohit Sharma Stand, acknowledging his immense contribution to Indian cricket. With over 19,700 international runs in 499 matches, 49 centuries, and a record 264-run ODI knock, Rohit’s accolades include three double centuries in ODIs and ICC titles in both the T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy—one each as captain.
The move comes as part of a broader initiative by the MCA to recognize excellence while investing in the future of Mumbai cricket. The AGM also saw the approval of two more stands Grand Stand Level 3: Shri Sharad Pawar Stand, and Grand Stand Level 4: Ajit Wadekar Stand.
In another emotional tribute, the match-day office at the MCA Pavilion has been renamed the MCA Office Lounge in memory of the late Amol Kale, the former MCA president, honoring his lasting legacy within the organization.
On the development front, the MCA made a pivotal financial decision to increase the corpus for affiliated clubs to ₹75 crores, with plans to scale it up to ₹100 crores in the coming years. This investment aims to enhance grassroots infrastructure, ensuring that young talent across Mumbai has access to world-class facilities and opportunities.
