The regulator highlighted a critical security flaw in Facebook’s video upload feature, which hackers exploited to gain unauthorized access to users’ profiles. This breach allowed attackers to take full control of accounts, raising significant concerns about Meta’s security practices and data protection measures.
The DPC, which plays a key role in enforcing the European Union’s strict data privacy laws, criticized Meta for failing to implement adequate safeguards to protect user information. The fine is part of the EU’s broader push to hold tech giants accountable under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
