Monsoon Hits Kerala, Three Days Ahead Of Schedule

Date:

Thiruvananthapuram: According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the Southwest Monsoon has set over Kerala on Sunday.

IMD in a tweet said that “Southwest Monsoon has set in over Kerala today, May 29th against the normal date of onset, June 1st. Thus the Southwest Monsoon has set in over Kerala three days ahead of its normal date.”

IMD further added that the monsoon has advanced into the remainder of the South Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area, most parts of Kerala, some parts of southern Tamil Nadu, and some parts of the Bay of Bengal on Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday, IMD confirmed that the condition of monsoon onset was becoming favorable during the next 2-3 days, including the Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area over the same period.

A thunderstorm warning was issued and rainfall was under the influence of westerly winds emerging from the Arabian Sea over Southern peninsular India at the lower tropospheric levels.

The Union Home Secretary has appealed to all the Union Territories, states and central agencies to be prepared for the oncoming monsoon season so that losses due to natural calamities can be reduced.
