Mumbai Police have summoned Ashish Hemrajani, the CEO and co-founder of BookMyShow, along with the company’s technical head, following allegations of ticket black marketing for the upcoming Coldplay concert.
The summons comes from the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) after an advocate, Amit Vyas, lodged a complaint claiming that the ticketing platform facilitated the unauthorized resale of concert tickets for the British rock band, scheduled to perform at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium from January 19 to 21, 2025.
Vyas accused BookMyShow of deceiving the public, alleging that tickets originally priced between Rs 2,500 and Rs 35,000 are being resold by third parties and influencers for exorbitant amounts—reportedly up to Rs 3 lakh. He is pressing for fraud charges to be filed against the company, which he claims has contributed to the ticket scalping issue.
The EOW has already recorded Vyas’ statement and is investigating several brokers linked to the alleged scalping activities. The summoned executives are expected to provide their statements to the police on Saturday.
The Coldplay concert marks the band’s long-awaited return to India after an eight-year absence, and excitement has been palpable among fans. Tickets went on sale on September 22, but the launch was plagued by technical glitches, leading to a rapid sell-out of available tickets. Fans expressed outrage as resale tickets surfaced online.
In response to the controversy, BookMyShow issued a statement earlier this week, clarifying that it does not partner with third-party ticket-selling platforms like Viagogo and Gigsberg. The company cautioned the public against purchasing tickets from unauthorized sources, emphasizing the risks of counterfeiting.
