In a thrilling javelin final at the Paris Olympics, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem clinched the gold medal, while Indian star athlete Neeraj Chopra secured the silver. The event marked a historic moment for Pakistan as Nadeem earned the country’s first-ever individual gold medal and its first Olympic medal since 1992.
Beyond the intense competition, a rare and touching display of cross-border unity emerged as the mothers of both athletes praised each other’s sons, likening them to their own. Neeraj Chopra’s mother, Saroj Devi, expressed her pride in her son’s achievement, while also applauding Nadeem’s performance.
“We are very happy. For us, silver is also equal to gold. The one who got the gold (Arshad Nadeem) is also like our son,” she said.

Echoing this sentiment, Arshad Nadeem’s mother, in an interview with Independent Urdu, spoke warmly about Neeraj Chopra. “He is also like my son. He is Nadeem’s friend and also his brother. Wins and losses are part of the sport. May god bless him, may he win medals. They are like brothers, I prayed for Neeraj too,” she remarked.
Following the competition, Neeraj Chopra congratulated Arshad Nadeem, acknowledging his friend’s exceptional performance. “Today’s competition was really great. Arshad Nadeem threw really well. Congratulations to him and his country,” Chopra stated.
