NSA Ajit Doval Attends BRICS Security Meeting in Russia

Date:

National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval participated in the BRICS National Security Advisers’ meeting in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on Wednesday. The high-level gathering, which includes BRICS and BRICS Plus security officials, is being held from September 10 to 12, focusing on key global security concerns.

The Indian Embassy in Russia shared updates on the meeting, revealing that Doval addressed several pressing security challenges during the first half of the session. Among the key topics he discussed were modern threats related to information and communication technology (ICT) and terrorism. Doval emphasized the importance of joint efforts within the BRICS framework to effectively tackle these issues.

Russia holds the chairmanship of BRICS for the year 2024, and the meeting comes at a time when the group has expanded to include new members such as Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia, in addition to its core members—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

This marks the second BRICS NSA meeting attended by Doval this year, following his participation in the 13th BRICS NSA gathering in Johannesburg in July 2023. His visit to Russia also follows a series of high-profile meetings involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited both Russia and Ukraine in recent months.

PM Modi held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, addressing regional tensions and international security.
