Indian shooter Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar also participated in the qualification round but finished 11th with a score of 589-33x, missing out on the final as only the top eight shooters advance.
China’s Liu Yukun set a new qualification Olympic record with a score of 594-38x. The final for the men’s 50m 3-position event is scheduled for Thursday at 1 PM IST, where India hopes to add to its medal tally at the ongoing Paris Olympics.
Earlier in the Games, Indian shooter Manu Bhaker won a bronze medal in the women’s individual 10m air pistol event, bringing India’s total medal count to two. Bhaker, along with Sarabjot Singh, also won a bronze in the mixed team 10m air pistol event by defeating South Korea’s Lee Wonho and Oh Ye Jin 16-10 in the bronze medal match. Bhaker and Sarabjot combined for a score of 580-20x to secure third place.
Bhaker’s bronze in the 10m air pistol event marked her first individual Olympic medal, making her the first Indian woman in 20 years to reach a shooting final in an individual event since Suma Shirur in 2004. This achievement was particularly significant for Bhaker after a disappointing performance at the Tokyo Olympics due to a pistol malfunction.
In the women’s 10m air pistol event, South Korea’s Ye Jin won gold with an Olympic record of 243.2 points, and her compatriot Kim Yeji took silver with 241.3 points. Bhaker will continue her quest for more Olympic success as she competes in the 25m pistol event.
