Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended his congratulations to Nepal’s new Prime Minister, Sushila Karki, marking a fresh chapter in the ties between the two neighbours.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Modi congratulated Karki. “Heartfelt congratulations to the Honourable Mrs. Sushila Karki upon assuming the office of Prime Minister of Nepal’s interim government. India is fully committed to the peace, progress, and prosperity of Nepal’s brothers and sisters,” PM Modi wrote.
Karki, who took oath as Nepal’s interim Prime Minister earlier in the day, is the country’s first woman to hold the post. A former Chief Justice of Nepal’s Supreme Court, she is known for her zero-tolerance stance on corruption and for her strong educational links to India, having studied at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi.
