The trailer for Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam presents a courtroom-focused account of the legal battle that followed the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, shifting attention from the 2008 siege to the trial of sole surviving terrorist Ajmal Kasab.
Directed by Avinash Arun and produced by Maddock Films, the film stars Rajkummar Rao as Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, who led the prosecution and faced intense public expectations and international scrutiny.
The trailer opens with scenes recalling the attacks at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) before moving into the courtroom.
A key moment centres on Kasab’s claim that he was 17 years old, which his defence uses in an attempt to have the case shifted to a juvenile court, where the maximum punishment would be three years.
Kasab is also shown claiming he had come to Mumbai as a tourist to visit Amitabh Bachchan’s residence.
His defence counsel, played by Sikandar Kher, presents the argument, while Nikam counters by stressing constitutional due process and India’s legal framework.
The cast also includes Jaideep Ahlawat, Ashish Vidyarthi, Wamiqa Gabbi and Nassar.
Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam is scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release on October 16.
