Heavy and incessant rains have led to severe waterlogging in several parts of Pune. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert due to continuous rainfall. Schools have been shut and residential apartments in Pune’s Pimpri-Chinchwad have been flooded. Three people were electrocuted while wading through a waterlogged street.
The region has been experiencing persistent rains for the past two weeks, causing widespread disruptions and safety concerns.
In anticipation of further adverse weather, the Pune administration has also declared a holiday for schools in the district. This measure is taken to ensure the safety of students and school staff, as the district braces for more rain and potential hazards.
Three teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed at Ekta Nagar, Sinhgad Road and Varje areas. Some places have water up to the waist level.
Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to assist residents and mitigate the impact of the severe weather. The district administration is urging people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas prone to flooding and landslides.
As Pune continues to deal with the challenges of the monsoon season, the focus remains on ensuring public safety and providing support to those affected by the extreme weather conditions.
