Mumbai: Actor R Madhavan has criticised wellness and functional-health brand Elevate Now for allegedly using an edited clip of his old interview without permission to promote its weight-loss programmes.
Calling the act “a shame,” the actor said the video made it appear as though he was endorsing their services and confirmed that a legal notice has been sent.
Madhavan shared a screenshot of the promotional content circulating online, in which a snippet from one of his earlier interviews, where he discussed fitness habits was reportedly used along with claims about weight-loss programmes, biomarker testing and curated health offerings.
He wrote that such use misleads the public and questioned how organisations believe they can “get away with this,” urging people to be cautious about such endorsements.
The actor clarified that the clip was taken without consent and falsely projected as his endorsement. The post on social media also carried the message “LEGAL NOTICE SENT.”
In his earlier interview, Madhavan had spoken about gaining weight for his role as scientist Nambi Narayanan in Rocketry: The Nambi Effect (2022). He also discussed disciplined lifestyle habits such as chewing food thoroughly, personalised diets based on allergy tests, avoiding raw food after 3 p.m., finishing dinner by 6:45 p.m., and practising intermittent fasting.
