YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as “BeerBiceps,” has approached the Supreme Court to seek relief from multiple FIRs filed against him in various states. These FIRs stem from controversial remarks he made during a now-deleted episode of the YouTube reality show India’s Got Latent, hosted by comedian Samay Raina.
Through his lawyer Abhinav Chandrachud (son of former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud), Allahbadia filed a petition asking the Supreme Court to consolidate the FIRs and grant anticipatory bail, as he fears arrest by the Guwahati police, who have issued summons to him. The petition also requested an expedited hearing, but Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna declined, noting that a date had already been set and suggested the legal team contact the court registry for further details.
The controversy began after Allahbadia made offensive remarks about parents and sex during the show, which sparked public outrage. A resident of Guwahati filed a complaint, leading the Assam police to register a case against Allahbadia, Raina, and other participants such as Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija under obscenity and public morality laws.
FIRs were filed in Guwahati, and the Assam police are now in Mumbai to serve summons to those involved. Raina, who lives in Pune, has been asked to appear before the police but is currently in the U.S. for his shows and has requested more time.
The issue has even reached Parliament, where Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske called for stricter social media content regulations. A parliamentary panel has asked the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to submit a detailed report on the issue by February 17.
