Indian cricket stalwart Rohit Sharma has officially announced his retirement from Test cricket, bringing down the curtain on an illustrious 11-year journey in the longest format of the game. Rohit made the announcement on Wednesday via a heartfelt message shared by the Indian captain on Instagram.
“Hello everyone, I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format,” Rohit wrote.
The decision marks the end of a significant chapter in Indian cricket, as Rohit exits the Test arena after having played 67 matches. Since making his debut in 2013, the right-handed opener has amassed 4,302 runs, which include 12 centuries and a highest score of 212.
Known for his elegant stroke play and resilience at the top of the order, Sharma adapted seamlessly across conditions and played a pivotal role in several memorable wins at home and overseas. Rohit took over the Test captaincy from Virat Kohli in 2022 and led India in 24 matches, during which he was credited for maintaining team unity and overseeing important series victories.
