Comedian Samay Raina and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia on Tuesday appeared before the Maharashtra Cyber Cell in Mumbai amid an ongoing probe into allegations of promoting obscene and vulgar content on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent. The duo recorded their statements as part of the investigation that has drawn attention from law enforcement agencies in both Maharashtra and Assam.
The controversy erupted after a clip from a recent episode of the show went viral, in which Allahbadia made a remark involving a contestant’s parents. The comment sparked outrage online, triggering a wave of criticism over the tone and content of the discussion, and prompting police action.
In the days leading up to Tuesday’s appearance, Raina had also visited the Guwahati Crime Branch where his statement was recorded. Confirming this, Joint Police Commissioner of Guwahati Ankur Jain said that Raina was questioned regarding the video and his role in the episode.
The probe, initiated in Assam, involves multiple high-profile digital creators. Along with Raina and Allahbadia, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani and influencer Apoorva Makhija have also been named in the complaint. All individuals have cooperated with the Guwahati Crime Branch and recorded their statements earlier this month.
The viral video has intensified the debate around the boundaries of content creation on digital platforms. Allahbadia, who hosts one of India’s most popular podcasts, later issued a public apology. Acknowledging the backlash, he admitted that the joke was not only misplaced but also failed on comedic grounds.
