Samsung India has begun cutting jobs in batches across its television and home appliance businesses as rising costs, weaker sales and pressure on margins weigh on the company’s consumer electronics operations, according to the reports.
Around 80–100 executives have reportedly been asked to leave, including director-level officials, team leads, branch managers and area managers.
Termination letters have allegedly been issued in small batches, with some employees asked to leave without serving their notice periods. Samsung is reportedly offering three months’ salary plus an additional month’s pay for every year of service as severance.
The cuts could expand, with an industry executive saying that up to 25% of the electronics business’s sales and marketing workforce may be affected, including off-roll staff hired through agencies. Samsung’s domestic electronics sales team has around 550–600 executives, excluding its larger smartphone division.
The company is also consolidating branches, including offices in Ranchi and Patna, Delhi and Gurgaon, and Punjab and Chandigarh, making some positions redundant.
Memory chip prices have more than doubled, while smartphone volumes have reportedly fallen 11–12% year-on-year. The rupee’s nearly 10% decline through FY26 and higher raw material costs have added pressure.
Samsung’s smartphone division remains unaffected for now. Phones contribute about three-fourths of its India revenue.
Despite the pressure, Samsung India’s FY25 revenue rose 12% to about ₹1.1 trillion, while net profit increased 38% to ₹11,287 crore.
