Gaddam Dharmendra, a 1990-batch IFS officer has been appointed as the new Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The senior diplomat is currently serving as the additional secretary in the MEA. Dharmendra will take place of Saurabh Kumar, who was appointed India’s envoy to Myanmar in October.
Prior to this, he served as Ambassador to Zambia and Consul General in Hong Kong.
The appointment came when India is going through a tough time with US imposing sanctions on Iran.
United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday stated that the US has reimposed sanctions against Iran while providing temporary oil waiver to 8 countries: China, India, Italy, Greece, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Turkey.
