Sensex, Nifty Open Marginally Higher Ahead Of Exit Polls

Date:

Indian stock markets opened with slight gains on Tuesday, supported by positive global cues, even as investors tread cautiously ahead of key state election exit polls and updates on the Red Fort blast in Delhi.

At the opening bell, the BSE Sensex climbed 136.17 points (0.16%) to 83,671.52, while the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 42.65 points (0.17%) to 25,617. Broader indices also traded mildly positive, with the Nifty Midcap 100 up 0.11% and the Nifty Smallcap 100 gaining 0.16%.

Market experts said sentiment remained fragile due to domestic uncertainties, despite encouraging signals from overseas markets.

“There will be some worry on the blast that rocked the capital on Monday evening, leading to over eight deaths. Global cues are positive, with the US government reopening later today or by tomorrow, leading to risk-on sentiment. President Trump once more spoke of a US-India deal being finalised shortly,” said Ajay Bagga, Banking and Market Expert, while speaking to ANI.

He added that the conclusion of Bihar state polls and release of exit polls later this evening could influence short-term investor sentiment, noting that final results on November 14 will determine the direction of market momentum.

On the sectoral front, performance was mixed:

  • Nifty IT rose 0.52%
  • Nifty Auto gained 0.33%
  • Nifty Media up 0.26%
  • Nifty Pharma added 0.08%
while Nifty FMCG slipped 0.20% and PSU Bank declined 0.27%.

Globally, equities rallied after reports that the US Senate and House of Representatives were close to passing measures to reopen the government, ending the longest shutdown in US history. Optimism was further boosted by remarks from President Donald Trump, who said the US was “close to making a deal with India” and hinted that tariffs could be reduced in the future.
