Unidentified gunmen opened fire outside Bollywood actor Disha Patani’s residence in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, late Thursday night.
Police confirmed the incident and said five teams have been formed to track down the attackers after the actor’s father, Jagdish Patani, filed a complaint.
In a Facebook post, Virendra Charan — who claims to be associated with the Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar gang — took responsibility for the shooting. He accused Patani of insulting spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj and warned that the incident was just a “trailer.”
“The insult of deities and Sanatan Dharma will not be tolerated,” the post read. “Next time, if she or anyone else shows any disrespect towards our religion, we will not let them leave alive from their house.”
The post further stated: “This message is not only for her but also for all film artists and people associated with her. If anyone does any such disrespectful act related to our religion and saints in future, then be ready to face the consequences. We are ready to go to any extent to protect our religion. For us, religion and the whole society are always one, and protecting them is our first duty.”
The incident follows a similar attack a month ago when three masked men opened fire outside YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT winner Elvish Yadav’s house in Gurugram. Police say investigations are underway and security measures have been tightened.
