The Men’s Selection Committee on Tuesday announced India’s squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, with Shreyas Iyer named captain and Tilak Varma appointed vice-captain.
Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has returned to the squad, subject to fitness clearance, while Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar and Harshit Rana have also been included.
Bumrah last represented India in the international arena on July 16 against England in Cardiff. He subsequently missed the final ODI at Lord’s after sustaining an impact injury while fielding and was also ruled out of India’s Test series against Sri Lanka.
The three-match series will begin on September 13, followed by the second T20I on September 15 and the third on September 17. All three matches will be played at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in New Delhi.
India’s squad features a blend of experienced players and young talent. The top order includes Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan, while Iyer, Tilak and Shivam Dube form the core of the middle order.
The all-rounder options include Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar, while Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi will lead the spin department.
Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh headline the pace attack, with Harshit Rana providing another seam option.
