Teen sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi produced a stunning knock of 93 off just 38 balls as Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by seven wickets in a high-scoring IPL 2026 clash to keep their playoff hopes alive on Tuesday.
Chasing a daunting target of 221, RR rode on Sooryavanshi’s explosive innings and unbeaten half-centuries from Jitesh Sharma and Dhruv Jurel to complete the chase in 19.1 overs.
Earlier, after being put in to bat, LSG posted an imposing 220/5, powered by a blistering 96 off 57 balls from Mitchell Marsh and a rapid 60 off 29 balls from Josh Inglis
Marsh and Inglis gave LSG a flying start, adding 109 runs for the opening wicket in just 50 balls. Inglis struck seven fours and three sixes before being dismissed by leg-spinner Yash Raj Punja.
Marsh continued the assault and stitched another crucial partnership with skipper Rishabh Pant, who made 35, helping LSG maintain the momentum through the middle overs. The Australian all-rounder narrowly missed out on a century, falling for 96 after smashing 11 fours and five sixes.
For Rajasthan Royals, Yash Raj Punja was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/35.
In reply, RR got off to a brisk start through stand-in captain Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi. The duo added 75 runs in just 39 balls before Jaiswal departed for 43.
Sooryavanshi, however, continued his aggressive approach and dominated the LSG bowling attack with a flurry of boundaries and sixes. He then shared a match-winning 105-run partnership with Jitesh Sharma, putting RR firmly in control of the chase.
The youngster eventually fell for 93, missing out on a deserved century, but Jitesh Sharma remained unbeaten on 53 to guide Rajasthan home comfortably.
The victory keeps Rajasthan Royals in contention for a playoff spot, while Lucknow Super Giants’ campaign suffered another setback despite Marsh’s brilliant innings.
