Chennai: Chennai Super Kings will take on Mumbai Indians in a crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 encounter at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday, with both sides fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The two five-time champions find themselves in unfamiliar territory this season, languishing in the bottom half of the table. CSK are placed sixth with six points, while MI sit ninth with just four points from eight matches, making the contest a virtual must-win for both teams.
CSK head into the clash with momentum, having thrashed MI by 103 runs in their previous meeting on April 23 at the Wankhede Stadium. A dominant unbeaten century from Sanju Samson and a four-wicket haul by Akeal Hosein powered Chennai to one of Mumbai’s heaviest defeats in IPL history. The Super Kings have also won five of their last six encounters against MI since 2023.
Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK will rely on their in-form top order and spin-friendly home conditions at Chepauk to maintain their recent dominance. Their middle order, featuring power-hitters like Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube, will be key in setting or chasing a competitive total.
On the other hand, MI, captained by Hardik Pandya, are under pressure after a string of inconsistent performances. The likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma and Jasprit Bumrah will need to step up if Mumbai are to revive their campaign.
