Sunny Deol’s ‘Lahore 1947’ Sets Grand Independence Day 2026 Release

Date:

Aamir Khan Productions has officially announced that the highly anticipated period drama Lahore 1947 will hit theaters on August 13, 2026. Strategically scheduled for the Independence Day weekend, the film marks a historic first-time collaboration between three industry powerhouses: producer Aamir Khan, lead actor Sunny Deol, and director Rajkumar Santoshi. This project also serves as a major comeback for Preity Zinta, who returns to the silver screen after an eight-year hiatus.

The announcement comes as Sunny Deol continues to dominate the box office with the massive success of Border 2. According to official statements, the script for Lahore 1947—based on Asghar Wajahat’s renowned play—was a personal favorite of the late legendary actor Dharmendra. Aamir Khan shared that he felt fortunate to have been able to show the film to the veteran star before his passing.

The film features a stellar ensemble including Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, and Karan Deol, with a world-class technical team led by music maestro A.R. Rahman and lyricist Javed Akhtar. Set against the turbulent backdrop of the Partition, the narrative follows a family’s emotional journey as they navigate the moral conflicts of a changing nation. With its mid-August release, the film is expected to be one of the biggest cinematic events of 2026.
