Take A Look At Joe Biden’s Cabinet


As Joe Biden is set to take over as the 46th President of the United States on January 20th with Kamala Harris creating history as the first female, first Black, first South Asian US vice president, his cabinet picks are now making news. Biden’s 24-person Cabinet includes 13 men and 11 women and as the President elect terms it, “more than a dozen history-making appointments, including the first woman secretary of treasury, the first African American defense secretary, the first openly gay Cabinet member and the first Native American Cabinet secretary.”

A considerable number of women are key members of Biden’s key cabinet.

The White House Cabinet

A president’s Cabinet consists of

  1. Vice president
  2. Department secretaries
  3. Agency administrators
  4. Special appointments on policy.

Many of these positions, like secretaries, need to be confirmed by a Senate majority. On the other hand, appointees like the White House chief of staff or climate envoy, do not need a majority.

  3. Director of the National Economic Council – Brian Deese (Served as senior adviser to the president Barrack Obama)
  4. Senior adviser to the president – Mike Donilon (Veteran political strategist who has advised the president-elect for nearly four decades, including during Biden’s previous stint in the Obama White House.)
  5. Chief of staff to the vice president – Tina Flournoy (Chief of staff to President Bill Clinton.
  6. Domestic policy adviser to the vice president – Rohini Kosoglu (Kamala Harris’s deputy chief of staff when Harris first joined the Senate in 2016)
  7. Deputy chief of staff – Jen O’Malley Dillon (Biden’s campaign manager earlier this year)
  8. Counsel to the president – Dana Remus ((Recently worked as general counsel to Biden’s presidential campaign.)
  9. Chief of staff to Jill Biden – Julissa Reynoso Pantaleon (Former ambassador to Uruguay who served in the State Department under Obama.)
  10. Steve Ricchetti – Counselor to the president (One of Biden’s most trusted strategists and served as his chief of staff when Biden was vice president.)
  11. Domestic Policy Council Director – Susan Rice (Worked closely with Biden during her time as President Obama’s national security adviser from 2013 to 2017.)
  12. Senior adviser to the president – Rep. Cedric L. Richmond (D) (One of Biden’s most prominent African American allies and will also serve as Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. He was an early supporter of Biden who frequently campaigned for him and appeared on television on his behalf.
  13. Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs – Julie Rodriguez (Deputy campaign manager on Biden’s presidential campaign.)
  14. Chief spokeswoman to the vice president – Symone Sanders (Was a political analyst and commentator.)
  15. Director of Oval Office operations – Annie Tomasini (Served as Biden’s traveling chief of staff and worked with the Bidens for over a decade.
