Washington D.C.: US President Donald Trump on Monday criticized media leaks that, he said, complicated a recent high-risk military rescue mission. Speaking to reporters, Trump described how information about the operation was prematurely disclosed, putting personnel at risk.
“As you probably know, we didn’t talk about the first one for an hour. Then somebody leaked something, which we’ll hopefully find,” Trump said. He added that the leak made the operation “much more difficult” because it revealed that one individual had already been rescued while another remained in danger.
Trump warned that those responsible for disclosing sensitive information could face legal consequences.
“The person who did the story will go to jail if he doesn’t tell, and that doesn’t last long,” he said, emphasizing that the leak endangered not only the target but also “the hundreds of people who went in looking for him.”
