US President Donald Trump on Tuesday issued a sharp warning against Spain and once again pressed his demand for Greenland while attending the NATO Summit in Ankara.
During a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the alliance over Greenland and Iran. He said, “I’m very upset with NATO.”

Trump also targeted Spain, calling it a “terrible partner in NATO.” He said, “Spain is a wasted cause. We don’t want to do any trade business with Spain anymore,” and asked Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to “cut it off”.
Speaking about Greenland, Trump described the Arctic island as important for global security. He said, “Greenland is a big problem for us,” adding, “We need it for protection of the world, not just the United States.. It doesn’t help Denmark, but it helps us.”
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said the United States and Denmark would continue discussions on the possibility of increasing the US presence on Greenland. However, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reiterated that Greenland is “not for sale.”
Trump also claimed the United States spends a disproportionate amount within NATO to help protect Europe from Russia.
