Two individuals have tragically died following a tire explosion on a Delta Air Lines aircraft at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Tuesday. The incident occurred while the tire was being changed at Delta’s TechOps maintenance hangar located on Maynard H. Jackson Jr. Boulevard, near the international terminal.
The explosion claimed the lives of a Delta employee and a contractor who were present at the scene. A second Delta employee sustained serious injuries and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The aircraft involved had arrived in Atlanta from Las Vegas on Sunday night and was undergoing routine maintenance when the accident occurred. Despite the severity of the situation, flight operations at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport have not been impacted by the tragedy.
Delta Air Lines expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating, “The Delta family is heartbroken at the loss of two team members and the injury of another following an incident this morning at the Atlanta Technical Operations Maintenance facility.”
