In a significant development, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba tendered his resignation on Wednesday. The resignation comes in the wake of a devastating Russian missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Poltava.
Kuleba’s resignation was made public when the speaker of parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, posted the minister’s resignation letter on Facebook. While the parliament has already approved the resignations of three other ministers and one vice premier, it did not accept the resignations of the head of the State Property Fund, Vitalii Koval, and Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk, who will continue in their roles.
President Zelenskiy emphasized that the government changes are crucial for Ukraine’s strength and the achievement of key objectives during this critical period of the conflict.
The reshuffle, described as a “reset” by a senior ally of President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, follows the resignation of five ministers on Tuesday, with more changes expected in the coming days as Ukraine braces for a challenging winter ahead. The shake-up is seen as a strategic move by Zelenskiy to fortify his government at a crucial juncture in the war.
