One of India’s most awaited films, tentatively known as SSMB29, now has a name that’s already sparking excitement—Varanasi. Director SS Rajamouli revealed the official title along with the film’s first teaser at the GlobeTrotter event held at Ramoji Film City on Saturday evening.
Headlined by Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra, with Prithviraj Sukumaran in a pivotal role, Varanasi marks Rajamouli’s return to the action-adventure genre with a story that promises scale, mythic undertones, and a striking new avatar for its lead star.

The teaser offered a powerful first glimpse of Mahesh Babu as Rudhra, introducing him riding an ox and wielding a trishul—imagery that set the tone for the film’s intense, mystical world.
Priyanka Chopra, who returns to Indian cinema with this film, plays Mandakini, while Prithviraj Sukumaran steps into the role of Kumbha, adding further weight to the ensemble.
Produced on a massive canvas and expected to combine spectacular action with Rajamouli’s signature storytelling, Varanasi is slated for a Sankranti 2027 release.
