Veteran Actor Pradeep Rawat Passes Away At 74

Mumbai: Veteran actor Pradeep Rawat, best known for his memorable roles in Lagaan and Ghajini, passed away at the age of 74. His death was confirmed by his manager, Siddharth Tiwari, who said the actor had been battling cancer after the disease relapsed. He had been hospitalised for more than a month and passed away a few hours ago.

Confirming the news, Siddharth Tiwari said, “He was suffering from cancer, and it had relapsed. He has died a few hours back.”

Actor Yashpal Sharma paid tribute to his longtime colleague on social media, writing, “Pradeep Rawat Our Gajini Deva of Lagaan RIP”.

Rawat had a career spanning over four decades and worked in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Nepali cinema. He first gained recognition on television as Ashwatthama in B.R. Chopra’s Mahabharat before making a successful transition to films. He was widely known for portraying powerful antagonists in films including Lagaan, Ghajini, Sye and Rowdy Rathore. He is survived by his wife and son, Vikramaditya.
